Qualifications

There is strong competition for places on plumbing courses, so you need at least four GCSEs at grades 9-4 (A*-C) including English, maths and science.

You must hold a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card to work on a site and pass a health and safety test to qualify for this scheme.

Many plumbers start their construction careers as an apprentice. Apprentices study towards an NVQ/SVQ Level 2 or 3 and are taught about the maintenance and installation of various plumbing components and systems.
