Overview
As a Building Services Engineering Technician, you’ll supervise the installation, commissioning or servicing of environmental technologies on construction projects.
Your title may include: Assistant Project Engineer, Assistant Engineer or Building Services Site Technician. You’ll draw up material specifications, draft plans and supervise the installation of building components.
Working in a team will be common and maybe managed by a Lead Project Engineer. Projects you work on would likely be varied, and could include assisting with the creation and installation of varied components, such as heating, lighting, ventilation, air-conditioning, electrical distribution, water supply, sanitation and much more.
Your work environment would be a mix of being in the office and on-site – as well as needing to be flexible with working hours.

Salary
Those newly trained can earn in the region of £17,000 – £20,000, with trained and experienced Building Services Engineering Technicians earning up to £30,000.
You can gain Chartership but will then become a Chartered Engineer working within building services. They can earn in the region of £30,000 – £40,000.

Qualifications
There are no specific entry requirements, but GCSEs at 4 (C) or above are useful to have, especially in English and maths – and science or design and technology may be advantageous.
One of the most direct ways to become a Building Services Engineering Technician is to complete an HND in one of the following subjects; Building Services Engineering, Construction and the Built Environment, Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics and Maths.
Alternatively, you could complete an apprenticeship in this field.
