Curtain Wall Installer

Installing curtain wall systems to form all or part of the external envelope of a building.

Overview

Curtain Wall Installers play a key role in the construction sector and ‘curtain walling’ is an integral part of a building’s external envelope.

Curtain walls are generally manufactured from aluminium and provide a lightweight framework which is fixed at the back of a building structure into which a range of infills can be inserted. These infills can be glass, panels, window units, ventilation and acoustic elements.

You’ll need a head for heights as you’ll likely be working on large commercial developments such as multi-storey office or residential blocks and other high-rise buildings.

Curtain wall systems are structurally capable of spanning multiple floors and can offer a continuous glazed façade covering the full height of the building, like you would see on new-style apartment or office blocks.

Top 5 Tasks

  1. Set out and fix the main grid work in accordance with approved drawings and instructions
  2. Fit and secure the infill materials
  3. Follow the guidelines set by the Centre for Window and Cladding Technology (CWCT)
  4. Fit doors and windows into the curtain wall grid.
  5. Work at extreme heights.
