Geospatial Mapping and Science Specialist

Interpreting and analysing geospatial data – data relating to geographic position on the earth’s surface.

Overview

As a Geospatial Mapping and Science Specialists you will use leading edge digital technology such as laser scanning, geographic information systems, remote sensing and imagery.

You’ll provide data analysis and advice for mapping, satellite navigation systems, global positioning systems, infrastructure, the identification of local, suburban or international boundaries, military, mining, and a range of other purposes.

You can work across several sectors, such as the public or private sector, as well as working with consultants, contractors, rail operators, government, the military, mapping companies, suppliers of computer-based mapping technology, and a range of others. 

You may find yourself involved in the construction of infrastructure including roads, buildings, bridges, offshore construction such as wind turbines and oil rigs and a wide range of other purposes. Also you could be involved in either the public or private sector, for an employer such as a geophysical consultant, civil engineering contractor or the military.

  2. Providing control points so the future movement of structures, such as dams or bridges, can be monitored
  3. Producing up to date plans
  4. Setting out a site so that structures are built to scale in the right place
  5. Monitoring the construction process.

Salary

Salary is typically around £35,000, but can reach more higher with experience.

Qualifications

Three A-levels at grade C or above, a relevant Level 3 Apprenticeship in a construction or property-related discipline; or equivalent qualifications are likely needed for this role.

Relevant experience may also be beneficial, particularly if strong analytical skills are demonstrated.
